While Star Wars is pretty much ubiquitous now, thanks to Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm, a bunch of new Star Wars movies and countless new TV shows on Disney+, the magic of a fast food crossover has been missing.
Press play on John Williams’ iconic Star Wars theme, because The Mandalorian and Grogu and Burger King are ready to bring back that magic with a new menu featuring the BBQ Bounty Whopper, Grogu’s Garlic Chicken Fries, Imperial Cheddar Ranch Tots, Grogu’s Blue Cookie Shake and a collectible cup. We’ve already seen Chips Ahoy!, Ritz and Lay’s get in on the action, and now the family of snacks owned by Kellanova/Mars Snacking has stepped onto the pitch with a lineup that includes Cheez-It Original Flags & Stars, Cheez-It Chili Cheese Dog, Town House Star Spangled Original Crackers, Pringles Spicy Loaded Nachos, Rice Krispies Treats Red White & Blue Sprinkles and Pop-Tarts Star-Spangled Blueberry. I like all those seeds, and Dave’s Killer Bread has yet to let me down when it comes to delivering a, well, killer slice of bread. The company also dabbles in bagels, and announced at the end of April that they’re rolling out two of their popular flavors as mini bagels and adding a new flavor of full-sized bagel in Dave’s Killer Bread Plain Awesome Mini Bagels, Dave’s Killer Bread Epic Everything Mini Bagels and Dave’s Killer Bread Summer Berry Bagels. If I had a nickel for every time Snackology covered a new snack based on the iconic Bomb Pop, I’d have two nickels. Sure, that’s not a lot of money, but it’s more than I’d expect under this specific scenario. Last summer, it was Mountain Dew Summer Freeze Zero Sugar. (Which you can check out in my recently released rankings of eight different Mountain Dew Zero Sugar flavors.) For this summer, the Bomb Pop has made the jump to yet another format, with Oreo Firecracker Pop cookies hitting shelves starting on Monday. (Read more)

Dwayne Johnson and I go back. I like to consider him a friend from the old days of Twitter. Seriously. Check out the time he quote-tweeted me. OK, so calling Johnson a friend might be a bit of a stretch, but it was cool to have the voice of Maui comment on a silly joke I made on social media. It’s something I remembered as I gave the new ZOA Energy Shave Ice a taste. (Read more)
Here at Snackology, I usually stick to brand names when it comes to reviewing new items. You’ll probably never see me writing up my thoughts on a new flavor of Great Value Mountain Lightning. But I’m making an exception for this summer’s lineup of Favorite Day gummies at Target. (Read more)

SNL has been gone since early April, but it feels like the show has been on hiatus for longer. With the end of Season 51 looming, the break loomed large. Thankfully, we had Olivia Rodrigo to snap the drought.
While Rodrigo has been the musical guest before, this episode was her hosting debut. She was a natural, though. (Read more)

There are just two episodes of SNL left to go before Season 51 comes to an end. Matt Damon returns to host this weekend. It’ll be his third time in the spotlight (not counting the times he played Brett Kavanaugh), but that doesn’t mean SNL can’t unleash some Good Will Hunting-based humor in 2026. (Read more)

The Academy kicked off May with a dozen updated rules. While many of them get into the weeds over shortlists and branch meetings, there are two new rules that will have a major effect on the Oscars going forward.
One, the Oscars are not for AI. At least not when it comes to the acting and writing categories, where the Academy now requires that “roles credited in the film’s legal billing and demonstrably performed by humans with their consent will be considered eligible” and “screenplays must be human-authored to be eligible.” Sorry, Tilly Norwood.
Two, you can now get nominated multiple times in a single acting category. Well, not specifically you. Unless you’re Kate Winslet and you’re reading this edition of Popculturology. The Academy has long prohibited an actor from being nominated twice in the same category, which has led to shenanigans where actors and studios have to pretend that lead roles are supporting roles. The Devil Wears Prada 2 easily outperformed its predecessor this weekend, turning in a $77 million debut compared to The Devil Wears Prada’s $27.5 million opener from back in 2006. (Read more)
