I’ve seen every Spider-Man movie in theaters. The Tobey Maguire ones. The Andrew Garfield ones. The Tom Holland ones. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the best live-action Spider-Man movie since Spider-Man 2.
Matching the magic of Sam Raimi’s second Spider-Man movie is a ridiculously lofty task, especially in the mind of a newsletter writer who spent the summer after graduating high school driving around with his friends as “Vindicated” was on loop in a car CD player.
But Spider-Man: Brand New Day easily outdoes the two Amazing Spider-Man movies (sorry, Andrew Garfield) and feels not only more complete but more representative of what Spider-Man can be than the previous three Holland movies. (Read more)

The last time Marvel Studios was at San Diego Comic-Con, they dropped the news that Robert Downey Jr. was returning to the MCU ... as Doctor Doom. Kevin Feige was back in Hall H on Saturday night, and with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars looming, the Marvel Studios chief pulled back the curtain on some of the MCU’s plans for beyond the next two Avengers movies.
The big news: Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and we have a new actor playing Black Panther. With Disney’s D23 less than a month away, Saturday’s SDCC news is likely only the beginning ... (Read more)
The legend of Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey will be told for generations. (Or, at least until Spider-Man: Brand New Day comes out next weekend.) The film continues to defy all expectations for an R-rated, non-franchise film.
Thanks to a ridiculous 30 percent weekend-to-weekend drop, The Odyssey grossed an estimated $87 million this weekend. That’s the biggest second weekend for any Nolan film, easily surpassing The Dark Knight’s $75.2 million second frame. (Read more)

Snackology loves a mystery. Whether it’s a flavor of Mountain Dew or a new variety of Cap’n Crunch cereal, good luck stopping me from buying something that comes with the challenge of trying to figure out what it’s supposed to taste like. (The secret of the mystery Airheads flavor is just that they’re whatever’s stuck in the pipes between flavors, right?)
With Chips Ahoy! Mystery Cookies making their debut today, it’s time to once again pick up my handy dandy notebook and try to figure out just what this limited-edition cookie flavor is hiding ... (Read more)

I love ice cream. At one point this year, there were probably eight different kinds of ice cream in our home, with Ben & Jerry’s, Tillamook, Hudsonville and Van Leeuwen all in the mix. (This is a perfectly normal amount of ice cream to have.) But what if I could make my own ice cream?
That was the question posed to me when the Cuisinart FastFreeze Ice Cream Maker showed up at my house. (Read more)

Hey Snackology buddies, welcome to the July 2026 edition of Snack Chat. There’s a ton of snacking news to cover this month, but I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t start with the following extremely important development:
The Oscar Mayer Wiener Cake.
It’s hard to believe, but the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has been around for 90 years. You’ve probably been lucky enough to see one on the road. I swear I have a Wienermobile whistle buried somewhere in my desk as I write this. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Oscar Mayer and Milk Bar have teamed up to create the Oscar Mayer Wiener Cake. America is going crazy with Meatology fever. First it was new bacon and hot dogs. Then there were more hot dogs. Then meat sticks. Then even more meat sticks. The people are clamoring for new reviews of meat-based products from Snackology. And I’m here to give them what they want.
Let’s try some Hormel Pepperoni Snack Bites. (Read more)
Any brewery with a menu worth its snacking value should have a shareable pretzel on it. Like, a giant pretzel. Big enough where the table gets quiet and contemplates their life choices. That pretzel should come with two things: A mustard that’ll clear out your sinuses and a delicious beer cheese. (Both items should be included with the massive pretzel. Neither should be an extra charge.)
Cheez-It and Coors Light understand how important this is, unveiling a collab just in time for the “transition from backyard summer barbecues to football kickoffs this fall.” (Read more)
I’m a huge fan of the Kit Kat holiday shapes. (Bunnies! Bears! Counts!) And even if it’s still July, I’m not immune to picking up Halloween candy if it’s the delightful new King Size version of the Kit Kat Count & Witch. This kind of innovation is what still gives me hope for our country. (Read more)
