Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Aug. 7-9, 2026.

1. Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Weekend gross: $145M
Total domestic gross: $655.1M
Last weekend: 1st
Percent drop: 60

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to web its name across the box office record books. After spinning the biggest domestic debut last weekend — its $360.1 million debut continued the Spider-Man franchise’s history of setting records Brand New Day snagged the third biggest second weekend ever.

The film’s estimated $145 million second frame trails only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($147.4 million). Brand New Day is the eighth film to ever score a $100M+ second weekend.

The latest Spider-Man film is already the second-highest grossing entry in the franchise, passing Spider-Man ($405.9 million) and trailing Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.8 million). Brand New Day is also the seventh-highest grossing MCU entry, passing Avengers: Age of Ultron ($459 million) and setting its sights on The Avengers ($623.4 million).

Speaking of No Way Home, here’s where things get even more interesting for Brand New Day. The previous Spider-Man movie added $344.4 million to its domestic haul after its second weekend. If Brand New Day manages that same feat, its domestic total would finish at $999.5 million. That would be more than enough to dethrone The Force Awakens ($936.7 million) from the No. 1 spot on the all-time North American chart — and put Spider-Man: Brand New Day within a rounding error of becoming the first film to ever earn a $1 billion domestic haul.

2. The Odyssey

Weekend gross: $31.5M
Total domestic gross: $461.2M
Last weekend: 2nd
Percent drop: 38

Spider-Man: Brand New Day might be siphoning off premium screens from The Odyssey, but Christopher Nolan’s film continues to notch its own box office accomplishments. The Odyssey moves past The Dark Knight Rises ($448.1 million) on Nolan’s personal chart, and is now less than $74 million away from catching The Dark Knight ($535 million) for the top spot.

3. One Night Only

Weekend gross: $5.7M
Total domestic gross: $5.7M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA

Maybe if director Will Gluck had really leaned into the bizarro world that One Night Only takes place in, it would’ve opened with more than $5.7 million. Anyone But You, Gluck’s previous film, defied expectations after opening with $6 million back in 2023, but that romcom was able to ride the growing popularity of Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.

4. Super Troopers 3

Weekend gross: $4M
Total domestic gross: $4M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA

Look, you don’t make Super Troopers movies because you expect runaway box office results. You make them because kids in college dorm rooms need movies to watch.

5. Toy Story 5

Weekend gross: $3.9M
Total domestic gross: $470.4M
Last weekend: 3rd
Percent drop: 42

Toy Story 5 hung around in the top five for the eighth straight weekend. The animated sequel might have enough juice left to pass Finding Dory ($486.3 million), but I’m not sure if it can become the third Pixar film to crack $500 million in North America. (Inside Out 2 with $653 million and Incredibles 2 with $608.6 million are the first two of the studio’s films to do so.)
