The limited-edition Baja Leo promises to spice up Mountain Dew. Does it deliver?

I was thrilled when a can of Mountain Dew Baja Leo Zero Sugar showed up at home on Monday ahead of its release later this week. You’re probably thinking, Bill, what is Mountain Dew Baja Leo Zero Sugar? Good question. I was wondering that exact same thing when I first saw this new Baja variant pop up on social media. Taco Bell and Tajín add plenty of tang to tacos, Cheesy Gordita Crunches ... and a Freeze?

With the milestone 300th edition of Snackology now in the history books, it feels appropriate that we launch the next 300 newsletters with the restaurant featured in the first ever edition of Snackology. 

Taco Bell and Tajín have partnered to launch a limited-edition menu on Thursday full of chile lime seasoning-packed menu items: The Tajín Taco, Tajín Cheesy Gordita Crunch and Tajín Pineapple Strawberry Freeze. (Read more)

I didn’t fall for the Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken Sandwich or Apple Crumble Frosty Fusion

August has only just begun, but Wendy’s has already rolled out its plans for fall with the Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger, Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken Sandwich, Bacon Pub Fries and Apple Crumble Frosty Fusion. 

“From the Pretzel Bacon Pub lineup to the Apple Crumble Frosty Fusion, this season’s menu is packed with the bold, elevated flavors fans are craving,” Wendy’s chief marketing officer Lindsay Radkoski said in the company’s announcement. “It’s the kind of menu inspiration you’d expect to find at your favorite neighborhood pub, now at Wendy’s.” (Read more)

Should you buy the Tostitos Chunky Guacamole dip?

Legally, there are three main food groups that you can dip your tortilla chips in: Salsa, queso and guacamole. (Yes, there are obviously other things you can eat with a tortilla chip, but there’s no way Congress is ever going to get around to sorting this out.) Tostitos has long been a dominant force when it comes to salsa and queso, making glass jars of both available in the chips aisle. 

They’re now jumping into the world of guac with Tostitos Chunky Guacamole. Don’t expect to find this new guacamole in the chip aisle, though. Your search will have to get ... cooler. (Read more)

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Apple earns its permanent shelf status

It’s impossible to screw up a Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor. Well, almost impossible. We did get Cinnamon Toast Crunch Root Beer Float earlier this year, so you can fly too close to the cereal sun. But when it comes to Cinnamon Toast Crunch Apple, General Mills already knew it had a hit on its hands.

The cereal began its life as Apple Pie Toast Crunch, occasionally returning to shelves as a limited-edition batch of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Rebranded as Cinnamon Toast Crunch Apple, this one is now a permanent member of the CTC family. (Read more)

End of Oak Street is the Twilight Zone and Jurassic Park mashup you didn’t know you needed

In a summer movie season dominated by Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, there’s a good chance that the film that’s gonna stick with me the longest will actually be The End of Oak Street.

I’ve been intrigued by this time travel/dinosaur movie, helmed by It Follows director David Robert Mitchell and produced by J. J. Abrams, since the first trailer came out months ago. From that first trailer, I loved the Twilight Zone vibes surrounding that early peek at The End of Oak Street.

If you had the same hopes I had, you’re not going to be disappointed by The End of Oak Street. It’s the Twilight Zone story that Jordan Peele’s reboot struggled to capture a decade ago. And at the same time, The End of Oak Street is the Jurassic Park story that countless directors have struggled to tell since Steven Spielberg’s original movie. (Read more)

Spider-Man: Brand New Day webs 3rd-biggest second weekend ever

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to web its name across the box office record books. After spinning the biggest domestic debut last weekend — its $360.1 million debut continued the Spider-Man franchise’s history of setting records Brand New Day snagged the third biggest second weekend ever.

The film’s estimated $145 million second frame trails only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($147.4 million). Brand New Day is the eighth film to ever score a $100M+ second weekend. (Read more)
