Here’s a fun fact: Pepperidge Farm was not founded by some mythical Pepperidge family. It was founded by Margaret Rudkin. And now Pepperidge Farm is honoring her legacy with Maggie’s Apple Pie cookies.
“Margaret Rudkin was a pioneer who grew Pepperidge Farm from a bakery in her Connecticut home kitchen into a national brand synonymous with top quality and timeless taste,” Ama Auwarter, vice president of Bakery and Cookies at Campbell’s Snacks, said in the company’s announcement. “The Maggie’s Apple Pie cookie pays homage to our company’s heritage and the woman who started it all nearly 90 years ago, while capturing the nostalgic taste of a classic American dessert.”
These cookies do a fantastic job of “capturing the nostalgic taste” of apple pie. The cookie crust is not only buttery but it also crumbles just like you’d expect from a piece of apple pie. Seriously, one broke all over my shirt as I sat down to write this review. The lattice design is very impressive.
My only complaint is that I wish there was more of the cinnamon-y apple pie filling. The taste is perfect, but the limited-edition cookie could’ve been ever so slightly thicker to accolade a thicker inner layer of filling.
