Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Aug. 21-23, 2026.

We’re in the endgame, folks. The Avengers: Endgame territory, that is. Spider-Man: Brand New Day added an estimated $39 million to its domestic haul this weekend, putting the runaway phenomenon less than $4 million away from passing the Infinity Saga finale ($858.4 million) to claim the No. 2 spot on the all-time North American chart.
From there, Brand New Day will only have Star Wars: The Force Awakens left between it and not only the No. 1 spot but also the feat of becoming the first film to gross $1 billion in North America. Tracking-wise, the latest Spider-Man film continues to outperform The Force Awakens on a weekend-to-weekend basis, with the seventh Star Wars film clocking in at $812.7 million after its fourth weekend.

The latest Insidious film saw an opening weekend dip compared to several of its predecessors. Insidious: Out of the Further’s $25.3 million debut trails the first weekends of 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door ($33 million), 2018’s Insidious: The Last Key ($29.6 million) and 2013’s Insidious Chapter 2 ($40.3 million). Out of the Further does earn the honor of becoming the first movie to crack into the top two since Spider-Man: Brand New Day debuted three weekends ago.

For the first time since it debuted with $123.5 million five weekends ago, The Odyssey has dropped out of the top two spots. I’m sure Christopher Nolan and the folks over at Universal are fine with that, though, knowing that The Odyssey has become the director’s biggest domestic hit, passing The Dark Knight’s $536.6 million North American haul.

Reviewing the box office performance of PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie will never not feel ridiculous. This franchise exists to sell new toys. Any money it makes from selling movie tickets it sells is just extra cash.
Weekend gross: $9M
Total domestic gross: $38M
Last weekend: 3rd
Percent drop: 57
I’m surprised that The End of Oak Street saw a 57 percent weekend-to-weekend drop. The word-of-mouth and buzz around the film seemed super positive, and I didn’t expect to see it fall behind PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie.
