I went into this review assuming I could easily pinpoint the secret behind Chips Ahoy! Mystery Cookies. The brand promises that we’re dealing with a “flavor that’s glitched into our world from another dimension.” Combining that with not only the “spooky” packaging for these cookies but also the flavor reveal scheduled for Oct. 31, and I assumed that Chips Ahoy! Mystery Cookies would be something Halloween-related.
As my daughter and I prepared to open the package, I asked her if she thought they might be candy corn-flavored. That wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination. Oreo has had a candy corn flavor before. But nothing about the smell of the cookies said “candy corn.”
The chips in these cookies have a taste and consistency that remind me of the classic Oreo creme. But nothing else about a Chips Ahoy! Mystery Cookie speaks to them being Oreo-related. And Oreos aren’t spooky or from another dimension.
Folks, I’m stumped.
Chips Ahoy! Mystery Cookies are a tasty addition to my cookie shelf. (I ate three or four of them right off the bat as I tried to decipher the secret flavor.) But for the life of me, I can’t crack the mystery.
