Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell go wild picking ‘SNL’ pretapes

The duo couldn’t stop at just one — or three — selections for their episode of ‘The Rundown.’
When it comes to filling out the perfect episode of SNL, Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell got the daunting task of picking the one pretape to represent them all. This category covers way more ground than anything we’ve yet seen for The Rundown. Commercials, movie trailer parodies, songs, even Digital Shorts — anything that was recorded before an episode was fair game here.

The three pretapes that The Rundown producers allowed Day and Seidell to pick are great selections. “Dick in a Box” is often the No. 1 choice for the best Digital Short. “United Way Peyton Manning” was an instant classic. And “Christmastime For The Jews” was part of arguably the greatest episode in SNL history.
I love that Day and Seidell — a duo that have teamed up to create countless iconic sketches from the modern SNL era — only got paired up because someone thought they both liked to smoke cigarettes. As someone who was actually in college during the glory days of CollegeHumor, it’s also wild that twenty years later, Seidell is one of SNL’s head writers.
