Do the ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ cereals show us how breakfast is done, done, done?

They’re not personalized cups of ramen, but KPop Demon Hunters has entered its cereal era. (Look, Snackology isn’t in the business of interfering with anyone in the middle of their napalm era.) A year after the animated movie turned into a massive phenomenon last summer, you can now find HUNTR/X Peach Mango Lucky Charms and Saja Boys Secret Flavor Cinnamon Toast Crunch wherever you buy cereal.

“Fans made the first cereal drop a total hit, so we knew we had to come back with an encore,” General Mills’s Megan Brooks said in the company’s announcement of the two cereals. “With HUNTR/X Peach Mango Lucky Charms, inspired by the group behind ‘Golden,’ joining the lineup and Saja Boys Secret Flavor Cinnamon Toast Crunch making its return, fans now have two ways to snack, collect and experience the world of KPop Demon Hunters.” 

It’s funny that we’re still years away from a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, but only now are we in the middle of a massive wave of merch inspired by the Netflix movie finally hitting stores. (Mattel’s lineup of 6-inch action figures of both the HUNTR/X women and Saja Boys guys is totally worth your money.) No one expected KPop Demon Hunters to be the massive hit that it quickly became, so it took months or even a year to finally get all of these licensed products going.

These two new cereals, though, are actually the second wave of KPop Demon Hunters-inspired cereals that we’ve gotten. Right before McDonald’s rolled out its Saja Boys Breakfast Meal, HUNTR/X Meal and Derpy McFlurry in March, General Mills did a super limited release of two mystery flavors of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. The timed release immediately went haywire, with the dedicated website crashing.

But now Saja Boys Secret Flavor Cinnamon Toast Crunch is back as HUNTR/X Peach Mango Lucky Charms makes its debut. I’m still wondering why General Mills didn’t go with Golden Grahams for this crossover, but let’s see what these two cereals sound like. I mean, taste like.

General Mills cereals, including Peach Mango Lucky Charms and Saja Boys Secret Flavor Cinnamon Toast Crunch, were two boxes for $7 at my Harris Teeter this week.

My thoughts

As I mentioned earlier, I missed out on the original release of KPop Demon Hunters cereals. I’m down to try any flavor of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and I would feel like I failed Snackology readers since I missed that drop, but it was clearly botched on the tech side. (Not as bad as how quickly the Pringles website collapsed when Pringles Pop Dog Buns were released earlier this year.)

How do we not start with Rumi, Zoey and Mira? After sharing the Cinnamon Toast Crunch with the rival Saja Boys during the year’s earlier cereal collab, HUNTR/X made the jump to Lucky Charms for the summer release. When I saw that this was a “HUNTR/X Peach Mango” flavor, I immediately thought of Tropical Trix featuring Disney’s Moana Cereal from this past spring.
