Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings to all-time domestic box office record

Up until a few weeks ago, I never thought it would happen, but on Tuesday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens to claim the top spot on the all-time domestic box office chart.

The Force Awakens settled at $935,642,689 over 119 days between 2015 and 2016. Up until Brand New Day came along, the seventh Star Wars film was the only movie to ever crack $900 million in North America — a record that I thought was virtually untouchable.

Welp, Brand New Day touched that milestone in just 47 days, fueled by a record $360.1 million opening weekend back in late July and early August. (Read more)

  • Practical Magic 2 ends the spell of Spider-Man: Brand New Day: After six straight weekends of Spider-Man: Brand New Day holding the No. 1 spot, Practical Magic 2 has ended Spidey’s spell. The legacy sequel grossed an impressive $30 million, returning to the top of the box office for the first time since the original film premiered almost three decades ago with $13.1 million. The Hoth Takes podcast and I have some serious questions about the Ahsoka trailer

I’m back on Hoth Takes this month! I joined Eric Geller and Haley Byrd Wilt to dive deep into the Ahsoka trailer released at last month’s D23. The vibes around Season 2 aren’t great ... (Read more)

SNL adds Saidah Belo-Osagie and Grace Reiter, promotes Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline

We have our final cast roster for the upcoming season of SNL. NBC announced on Wednesday that Saidah Belo-Osagie and Grace Reiter have joined the cast. SNL has also promoted Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline to the show’s regular cast.

The addition of Belo-Osagie and Reiter brings SNL’s cast back to 17, the same number the show started with last season. The two new cast members basically replace Bowen Yang, who left during the season, and Chloe Fineman, who left after Season 51 ended. (Read more)

I reclaimed Fourth Meal to put Gordita Crunch Duos to the test

Did Taco Bell stop promoting Fourth Meal? Even if the fast food restaurant doesn’t officially recognize the existence of a meal after dinner anymore, I still found myself ordering everything new on the Taco Bell menu for delivery while I was watching the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.

Taco Bell’s big release this week was Gordita Crunch Duos, available in steak or slow-roasted chicken. But as the chain often does, Taco Bell snuck several other new items onto the menu, leading me to add the Diablo Ranch Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider, the Creamy Chipotle Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider and Diablo Ranch Steak Nacho Fries to my order. Hershey’s Creme Bars add a touch of luxury to the classic chocolate bar

There might be better chocolate or fancier chocolate or more expensive chocolate out there, but I can never resist snagging a Hershey’s chocolate bar out of a mix of candy after lunch.

But that doesn’t mean Hershey’s isn’t looking for new ways to elevate its chocolate. (I’m still waiting for the Hershey’s Dubai-Inspired Chocolate Bars to become a regular item.) That’s where the chocolatier’s Hershey’s Creme Bars come into play. (Read more)

Food Finds: It’s a cereal battle between Count Chocula and HUNTR/X

I love that the core trilogy of Monsters Cereals — Franken Berry, Boo Berry and Count Chocula — are back with updated box art, building off the work done by The Jim Henson Company last year. (Read more)
