I reclaimed Fourth Meal to put Gordita Crunch Duos to the test

A late-night Taco Bell order gave me the chance to try five new items that hit the restaurant’s menu this week.

I reclaimed Fourth Meal to put Gordita Crunch Duos to the test

Did Taco Bell stop promoting Fourth Meal? Even if the fast food restaurant doesn’t officially recognize the existence of a meal after dinner anymore, I still found myself ordering everything new on the Taco Bell menu for delivery while I was watching the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.

(Josh Allen and I are very different people. While I was on the couch eating fast food, he was busy scoring five touchdowns and leading the Bills to a 2-0 start while possibly having the flu.)

Taco Bell’s big release this week was Gordita Crunch Duos, available in steak or slow-roasted chicken. But as the chain often does, Taco Bell snuck several other new items onto the menu, leading me to add the Diablo Ranch Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider, the Creamy Chipotle Crispy Chicken Crunchwrap Slider and Diablo Ranch Steak Nacho Fries to my order.

A friend of mine told me that McDonald’s locations in Western New York are offering a combo meal that includes a Buffalo Bills bobblehead. My Taco Bell order sadly did not.

What they cost

Taco Bell says that both Gordita Crunch Duos should be $5.49, but my Taco Bell charged me $5.99 for the two-pack of Steak Gordita Crunch Duos. Both Crunchwrap Sliders were $2.99, and the Diablo Ranch Steak Nacho Fries were $5.99.

Can I also take a moment here to gripe about the updated Taco Bell app and how it handles gift cards? You used to be able to use a gift card and then either tag in a second gift card or a credit card on a single order. The updated app no longer lets you use a gift card if it doesn’t have enough money on it to cover the entire order.

My thoughts

Steak Gordita Crunch Duos

Both versions of the Crunch Duos come with two of the Cheesy Gordita Crunch-inspired limited-edition menu items, offering “warm, pillowy flatbread layered with a blend of mozzarella, pepperjack and cheddar cheese, wrapped around [a] freshly fried daily white-corn shell.”

If you’ve followed Snackology’s Taco Bell journey the past year or two, you know that I’ve become a big fan of the steak-centric items at the restaurant. It really delivers on a different level than the standard Taco Bell beef or chicken. (If it costs me 40 cents more, fine.)

I would say that the problem with the Steak Gordita Crunch Duos is that there isn’t enough steak ... but I think both of my Gordita Crunch Duos were made incorrectly.
