Hershey’s Creme Bars add a touch of luxury to the classic chocolate bar

I didn’t realize until now that there should be more coffee-inspired chocolate bars.

We all know and love the classic Hershey’s chocolate bar. No matter how much people try to claim that this form of American milk chocolate is beneath them, are you actually going to protest when an individually wrapped Hershey’s bar ends up in your world?

No. Of course not. There might be better chocolate or fancier chocolate or more expensive chocolate out there, but I can never resist snagging a Hershey’s chocolate bar out of a mix of candy after lunch.

But that doesn’t mean Hershey’s isn’t looking for new ways to elevate its chocolate. (I’m still waiting for the Hershey’s Dubai-Inspired Chocolate Bars to become a regular item.) That’s where the chocolatier’s Hershey’s Creme Bars come into play.

Available in Affogato and Salted Caramel Creme, “Hershey’s Creme Bars offer a fresh take on chocolate with trend-forward flavors and distinctive fillings designed for consumers who love discovering what comes next.”

“This Hershey’s Creme Bar launch is more than introducing a new chocolate bar,” Katrina Vatter, senior brand manager at The Hershey Company, said in its announcement. “It’s about celebrating the small choices that help people express themselves and create moments of happiness throughout their day.”

I’ve actually had not only both flavors of the new Creme Bars waiting to be reviewed since last week, but I also snagged a large Salted Caramel Creme bar at 7-Eleven on my way to Philadelphia last Friday. My apologies to Snackology Nation for not getting this review to you all sooner ...

My thoughts

Hershey’s Affogato

Hershey’s Affogato

Of the two flavors, I lean toward Affogato being my favorite over Salted Caramel Creme. The latter is a flavor you can find pretty much anywhere, but the “coffeehouse-inspired” Affogato is not a variety that I’ve encountered anywhere else.

Both flavors of the new Hershey’s Creme Bars follow the same setup: A layer of caramel, a layer of flavored creme and a milk chocolate shell.

Yes, the twist to this comparison is that Affogato also has caramel filling. (If you don’t enjoy caramel, you’ll probably want to skip the Hershey’s Creme Bars.) In the case of Affogato, the caramel isn’t salted, instead being “espresso-flavored,” and it’s paired with “sweet vanilla creme.”

This is a solid chocolate bar. There should be more coffee-inspired chocolate bars.

Hershey’s Salted Caramel Creme

Just because salted caramel chocolate is widespread these days doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy Hershey’s Caramel Creme. This flavor hits you twice with caramel, with a “creamy dual-layer filling of rich caramel and salted caramel creme” inside that milk chocolate shell.

This flavor offers a nice bite. The caramel is substantial enough to be slightly gooey. The salted caramel creme, though, doesn’t deliver anywhere near the salty punch as I got with the Ghirardelli Premium Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Almond bar over the summer.
