I have a theory that Ted Lasso never existed. The show was a collective hallucination that we all experienced together instead of unpacking the pandemic and historical events that surrounded it.
But, if that were the case, how can I explain the existence of Jeni’s Biscuits with the Boss, an ice cream flavor that’s back to celebrate the premiere of the show’s fourth season?
“After a wildly successful debut in 2023, the fan-favorite flavor is back for a limited time. When news broke that Ted Lasso was returning for a fourth season, Jeni’s knew Biscuits with the Boss deserved a comeback, too,” the company said in the announcement of the flavor. “Inspired by Ted’s signature shortbread biscuits and his beloved daily ‘biscuits with the boss’ ritual, Jeni’s transforms the buttery, feel-good moment into a frozen treat.”
The fifth episode of Ted Lasso’s new season airs tonight, so it felt like a good time to open up a pint — a different kind of pint than what Mae serves at The Crown & Anchor — and give this limited-edition ice cream flavor a taste test.

I’m gonna be honest with you. I haven’t watched any of the current season of Ted Lasso. I know that it was a huge hit during its original three-season run. We watched those episodes right as they hit Apple TV. But by the time the show reached its third season, something had turned. The episodes were too long. The characters weren’t people you wanted to spend time with any more. The entire thing felt sloppy.
But Jason Sudeikis and Apple TV had (hopefully) creative and (more likely) financial reasons to resurrect Ted Lasso for a fourth season. Thanks to that revival, I got to try Jeni’s Biscuits with the Boss.
The company says that the flavor “features crumbly shortbread cookie pieces folded into salted butter sweet cream ice cream, creating a rich, creamy, salty-sweet scoop.” Biscuits with the Boss does not pull any punches when it comes to evoking a buttery biscuit.
I’ve never had butter-flavored ice cream, but this Ted Lasso-inspired flavor is very close. I enjoyed my first few spoonfuls, but the buttery flavor becomes overpowering. I wish the shortbread cookie pieces had more bite to them too. Their softer texture gets lost in the overall mix.
If you want a stellar ice cream to house while you’re watching Ted Lasso coach the Lady Greyhounds, I’d suggest Jeni’s Confetti Brownie Batter Ice Cream. It’s a Target exclusive, but it’s fantastic.
