It’s time to take the Muppets away from Disney

The future of the Muppets has never been more clear. Unless you’re Disney.

“Seven months, millions of views and four Emmys later, there has been no pickup” of The Muppet Show as a series, Deadline reported on Thursday. “There have been difficulties cracking a premise for an ongoing Muppet Show series that Disney (Disney+ and 20th TV), The Muppets Studio and [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s production company] will all be on board for.”

The premise is The Muppet Show. You just do THE MUPPET SHOW. (Read more)

Spider-Man: Brand New Day becomes 2nd film to hit $900M in North America

I’ve long thought that Star Wars: The Force Awakens had an unbreakable record on its hands when it came to the film’s $936.7 million domestic haul. The seventh Star Warsfilm had everything going for it. There had been a decade since The Revenge of the Sithhad seemingly closed out the franchise. The original trilogy’s stars were back. And The Force Awakens opened in the perfect December window to capitalize on the most lucrative combo of holidays and school vacations. Avengers: Endgame couldn’t break its record. The Avatar sequels couldn’t break its record.

Then Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out of nowhere this summer and has already joined The Force Awakens this weekend as the only two members of the $900 million club. (Read more)

Do the KPop Demon Hunters cereals show us how breakfast is done, done, done?

They’re not personalized cups of ramen, but KPop Demon Hunters has entered its cereal era. (Look, Snackology isn’t in the business of interfering with anyone in the middle of their napalm era.) A year after the animated movie turned into a massive phenomenon last summer, you can now find HUNTR/X Peach Mango Lucky Charms and Saja Boys Secret Flavor Cinnamon Toast Crunch wherever you buy cereal. It’s a good thing Olipop chose Caramel Apple over pumpkin spice

It’s just a few days past a year since the SpongeBob SquarePants-themed Olipop Pineapple Paradise opened my eyes to the wonders of prebiotic soda. Since that fateful day last September, I’ve been impressed by this beverage genre, enjoying Pepsi Prebiotic Sodas and Poppi Punch Pop too. (The rumored Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Prebiotic Soda absolutely has my snack radar on high too.) I’m even drinking a Grape Olipop as I write this newsletter.

What better way to celebrate this anniversary than with the limited-edition Olipop Caramel Apple? (Read more)

Jalen Brunson, Dakota Johnson, Shane Gillis and Inde Navarrette to host SNL

Folks, I think Lorne Michaels is still mad that he was forced to fire Shane Gillis. What other explanation besides Michaels still holding a grudge could explain SNL bringing Gillis back to host for the third time?

NBC announced the first four hosts for Season 52 on Wednesday, with Jalen Brunsonhosting when SNL returns on Sept. 26. The NBA champion will be followed by Dakota Johnson on Oct. 3, Gillis on Oct. 10 and Inde Navarrette on Oct. 31. You’ll note that there’s a two-week break between Gillis’s episode and Navarrette getting to anchor the Halloween show. (Read more)
