Is Goldfish Protein the snack that smiles back?

The last time Snackology checked in on the world of Goldfish, the iconic crackers had teamed up with Pokémon for a series of limited-edition releases. Now the fish-shaped crackers have teamed up with a different craze sweeping the nation: Protein.

Two flavors of Goldfish Protein will start hitting stores next month, offering 6 grams of protein in Cheddar and Pizza varieties.

“As snackers’ needs evolve, protein remains the No. 1 benefit they’re looking to get more of,” the company said of the new lineup. “Goldfish is meeting that demand with a convenient, perfectly packable snack featuring 6 grams of protein per serving.”

This obviously isn’t the first protein-forward version of a traditional snack that I’ve tried this year. I wasn’t all that impressed with Doritos Protein Nacho Cheese back in March. Would Goldfish pull off the “now with protein!” move better than Doritos?

What they cost

Both flavors of Goldfish Protein will sell at a suggested price of $3.99 when they begin hitting Walmart and other select retailers in October before going nationwide in 2027.

Goldfish Protein Cheddar

When you think of the basic Goldfish crackers, you think of the Cheddar flavor. Sure, there are other flavors. Pizza, as we’ll come back to in a few minutes. Original, which I’m pretty sure they used to call Saltine. Pretzel. Ranch.

So it’s a no-brainer that the Goldfish Protein line is anchored by a Cheddar flavor.
