Snackology is no stranger to covering a crossover between a candy brand and a cookie brand. The partnership that brought Oreos to Reese’s Cups and Reese’s Cups to Oreos was a huge, huge deal when it launched. (And that collab recently celebrated its one-year anniversary.) But what if the candy brand is the cookie brand?
That’s the bold, new world of Ghirardelli Crispy Cookies.
The company known for its higher-end chocolate is launching a lineup of cookies, with Classic Chocolate Chip and Double Chocolate varieties hitting stores now.
“At Ghirardelli, we’ve always believed that everything tastes better when made with Ghirardelli,” Bobby Oliver, vice president and head of marketing at Ghirardelli, said in the company’s announcement. “Cookies are one of those simple, familiar treats people reach for every day, and we saw an opportunity to make that experience distinctly Ghirardelli by bringing the quality and delicious chocolate taste consumers know and love to the cookie aisle.”
The cookie aisle is already a crowded place. If you’re a chocolate chip cookie, you need to compete with Chips Ahoy!, Famous Amos and several varieties of Pepperidge Farm. Does the advantage of Ghirardelli chocolate make these cookies a contender?

You can currently buy 6.3 oz. bags of each flavor on Ghirardelli’s website for $8.95 each. Ghirardelli Crispy Cookies are also currently available at Kroger stores and will expand to Walmart starting Oct. 24 before going nationwide in January.

We gotta start with the Ghirardelli Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie, right? Unless you’re foolishly taking on Oreo in the sandwich cookie category, any new cookie lineup needs a version of the chocolate chip cookie.
