I should’ve ordered a second Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza

The limited-edition Taco Bell innovation elevates both its Mexican Pizza and the Cantina Chicken menu.
There are few items on the Taco Bell menu more beloved than Mexican Pizza. The iconic offering disappeared from restaurants in the dark days of 2020 only to make a triumphant return in 2022.
Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza has never done it for me.
I’ve had it. And there are so many other items on the chain’s menu that I’d much rather order.
But the new Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza?
That’s a game-changer.
The limited-edition item takes the traditional Mexican Pizza and adds Cantina Chicken, black beans, green chile sauce, a three-cheese blend, shredded purple cabbage and pico de gallo.
“The Mexican Pizza is iconic for a reason. It’s that perfect layering of crispy, saucy, cheesy nostalgia that fans have loved for years, so we didn’t want to reinvent it, we wanted to build on it,” Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s global chief food innovation officer, said in the company’s announcement. “And because we know our fans are serious about sauce, we made sure the Jalapeño Citrus Salsa brings the extra spark that complements the Cantina menu.”

The Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza is one of my favorite things that I’ve eaten at Taco Bell in months.
When the restaurant revealed twenty new menu items that are on the way this year during its Live Más LIVE event, the Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza was one that I skipped right by. Even when I saw that it was coming this week, the upgraded take on Mexican Pizza wasn’t something that I was excited about.
But it’s fantastic. The Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza might also be the best implementation of Taco Bell’s Cantina Menu too.
Everything is working together with this one. Yes, I had to eat my Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza with a fork, but I never found it too soggy, which is often an issue I run into with some of Taco Bell’s variations on Cantina Chicken. The bright Jalapeño Citrus Salsa is fruity and pairs extremely well with a drizzling of the Avocado Verde Salsa.
My highest compliment to the Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza is that I never left the kitchen to eat it. I finished the pictures for this review and then stood at my counter and ate the entire thing.
