The Chicago Marathon is this Sunday. If you’re running the marathon, you should obviously carbo-load ahead of time on the full menu of Monopoly at McDonald’s options. But after that — if you’re looking to put some pep in your step — the fast-food chain has you covered with McDonald’s Pickle Boost.
“McDonald’s fans always go the extra mile for our pickles, and — in honor of marathon season — we’re going 26.2 for you,” McDonald’s wrote in its announcement of the limited-edition, um, beverage. “Pickle juice has become a staple for athletes dealing with cramps mid-workout, and now, we’re bottling up the salty, athlete-ready brine from the beloved ingredient for one of the biggest marathon weekends in the country in Chicago. Ready to test the rumored remedy with McDonald’s Pickle Boost?”
I’ve never run a marathon, but I have tried several pickle-flavored foods for Snackology this year, so I think I’m qualified to give McDonald’s Pickle Boost a shot.
If you’re a runner or a spectator at the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, McDonald’s has two free bottles of Pickle Boost available for you at five different Pickle Boost Pit Stops around the race course. Bottles will also be up for grabs at the lakefront shakeout run on Friday.

The fact that I haven’t been to Chicago during my adult life feels like a huge mistake on my part. I went once during my senior year of high school for a band/orchestra field trip. We saw all the attractions. A mall. Another mall. A Subway where a pigeon walked in the door. We did do a nighttime boat tour, which was probably the highlight of what we were allowed to do on the trip.
Earlier this year, Snackology brought you a deep dive into the fantastic Local Style chips. My daughter and I just picked up another bag this past weekend at the local beer shop that introduced me to the brand. (We went with Hot Dog this time. Our go-to is usually Deep Dish Pizza. I love that my daughter loves these chips.)
McDonald’s Pickle Boost is a different animal. It’s only available in Chicago during the upcoming marathon. I’ve never run a marathon, and after breaking my foot during the pandemic, I probably never will. But McDonald’s was kind enough to send me a few bottles ...
WOW. This is the concentrated stuff.
You know that scene in Breaking Bad where Tuco sampled some of Walter White’s work and had his mind blown? That was me after taking a hearty swig of Pickle Boost. Wow.
