We have a new secret to crack thanks to Little Bites Mystery Muffins
I refuse to be stumped by a mystery flavor again.
I refuse to be stumped by a mystery flavor again.
Gather ’round, kids, it’s time for another Snackology mystery! While last month’s review of Chips Ahoy! Mystery Cookies stumped me, I think I have a lead on the secret hiding in each bag of Little Bites Mystery Muffins.
The brand behind the classic tiny muffins wants to keep fans guessing — teasing outlandish possibilities like “bubble gum” or “reminiscent of the first day of summer” — while encouraging us all to submit possible names for this mystery flavor.
“Every great name has a story,” Annie Meehan, senior director of marketing for Little Bites, said in the company’s announcement. “It’s about capturing a feeling, a memory, a moment of pure joy. This Mystery Muffin deserves a name as special and imaginative as the kid in all of us.”
Hmmmm ...
A box of five four-packs should run you $5.69.

Still annoyed that I was unable to crack the mystery behind those Chips Ahoy! cookies, I vowed that Little Bites Mystery Muffins would not stump me as well.
And I think I figured it out.
If you’re unfamiliar with Little Bites Muffins, each bag contains four muffins that can easily be devoured in a bite or two. (You know ... little bites.) I took advantage of all four of the muffins in the first bag that I opened, thoughtfully chewing ... pausing ... chewing some more ...
It’s cotton candy.
I briefly thought that maybe Little Bites Mystery Muffins were toasted marshmallow-flavored, but there’s already a Little Bites S’mores Muffins flavor. No, this was the extra-artificial cotton candy flavor that you get in, I dunno, maybe a special-edition tin of Oreo cookies that features a cotton candy flavor.
Little Bites Mystery Muffins are sweet, but not too sweet. The cotton candy flavor is just subtle enough that you might miss it until it lingers. Based on the fact that these are muffins and not cupcakes, you have my approval to eat them at breakfast.
