You have a very limited amount of time to eat this ‘Friendsgiving flex.’

I bought Taco Bell’s Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie. (Yes, this is real.)

The very first review published by Snackology was about Mountain Dew Baja Blast Gelato. As the newsletter closes in on its 100th edition, it’s fitting that a year later, I’m finally covering the most elusive and rumored Taco Bell/Baja Blast crossover:

Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie.

Yes, Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie is real. It’s quite possibly at your local Taco Bell this very moment, finally hitting stores after Taco Bell first revealed its existence at Live Más LIVE 2024 last year.

It turns out the fast-food chain was waiting for Thanksgiving season to hit, marking Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie as a “more than a delightful dessert, the Baja Blast Pie is a Friendsgiving flex, making you the hero of thanksgiving.”

Taco Bell released Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie on Thursday, making it super clear that this wild addition to the Taco Bell/Baja Blast partnership was going to be available in limited quantities. It’s “here for a good time not a long-time,” the Taco Bell press release notes.

After waiting for roughly a year, I wasn’t going to miss this one. Unlike pretty much every other new and limited item on Taco Bell’s menu, the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie can’t be ordered via the restaurant’s app or website. You have to go to the store or drive through and admit to another human being that you would like — gulp, sigh, deep breath — one Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie, please.

The woman at my drive-thru actually asked me to repeat myself. And then there was a lengthy pause.

Had I missed my chance at landing a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie? Were they secretly laughing at me? After the drive-thru woman asked me how many I wanted, I realized that I likely wasn’t the day’s first Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie seeker.

Was the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie worth the wait? Should I have bought a bunch of them so I too could be a Friendsgiving legend in a few weeks?

What it costs

One Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie — which, as you can see from the photos, is a legit, full-sized pie — cost $19.99.

My thoughts

Once again, the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie is a real pie, with Taco Bell boasting that it has “the legendary Tropical Lime flavor of Baja Blast into a creamy, key lime–style dessert, featuring a graham crumb crust and topped with whipped cream to create a one-of-a-kind Friendsgiving showstopper.” And once I pulled it out the box and wrapper, it was all there.

A real pie. Graham cracker crust. A filling that instantly invoked the vibes of Baja Blast. And whipped cream decoration around the edge.

With the pie still frozen (the instructions on the back of the box recommended cutting it frozen), I struggled a bit to get the piece of Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie out of the tin. I really didn’t want to wreck this Snackology find.

My daughter was eager to try this one. (Yes, she’s had Baja Blast before, but I swear it’s always the Zero Sugar version. That’s OK for kids, right?) Once I got a piece out of the tin and before I handed it over to an excited child, I took my first bite.

To borrow from Shaquille O’Neill, I owe the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie an apology. I wasn’t really familiar with its game.

This is a tasty piece of pie. It’s bright. The ingredients all stand on their own, even the whipped cream, which Taco Bell could’ve very easily phoned in. Do I love it because I love Baja Blast? It’s too late in my life to make that distinction, but I think the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie will be a hit at any Friendsgiving celebration.

Taco Bell’s Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie is ridiculous. But Taco Bell’s Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie is also delicious. It’s by far one of the silliest things I’ve ever purchased to review for Snackology, but I’m so happy I found it and got to tell you all about it.
