How The Grinch stole breakfast
Christmas candy and a McDonald’s meal weren’t enough for Dr. Seuss’ villain-turned-spokesman.
Christmas candy and a McDonald’s meal weren’t enough for Dr. Seuss’ villain-turned-spokesman.
When I was a kid, The Grinch only popped up at Christmas in the form of Dr. Seuss’ classic book and the animated special that adapted that book. But in 2025, The Grinch is everywhere — including the wrappers of a ton of candy and a McDonald’s meal that people went crazy over — and now his purview includes your breakfast table.
General Mills has expanded its holiday cereal lineup beyond Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Mexican Style Hot Chocolate with The Grinch Sweetened Vanilla Corn Puffs Cereal.
Brands can’t help but try their hand at some Seussian language when it comes to promoting crossovers like this cereal, which General Mills describes as “vanilla, marshmallows and corn puffs galore, this whole grain treat will have you coming back for more!”

The Grinch Sweetened Vanilla Corn Puffs Cereal was on sale for $2.49 at my Harris Teeter.

When I saw The Grinch cereal on a display at the grocery store, I only tossed it into my cart since it was part of a buy one/get one free deal that included the fantastic Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch. It’s a good thing I trust my tendency to give in to impulse purchases at the grocery store since The Grinch cereal is surprisingly good.
Yes, this cereal is probably as basic as it gets — sweetened corn puffs with marshmallows — but I found myself scooping handful after handful into my mouth. It’s crunchy, not overtly sweet and doesn’t come with that cardboard-y taste that some of these one-off crossover cereals unfortunately have.
Also, bonus points for making the marshmallows pink Grinch hearts. Now I just need to see if they grow three sizes when I add milk. (Editor’s note: They don’t.)
