Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of July 5-7, 2024.
Weekend gross: $75M
Total domestic gross: $122.6M

The box office continued its summer celebration over the Fourth of July weekend, with the top three releases all grossing at least $20 million. Despicable Me 4 led the way with a $75 million three-day weekend. The $75 million was in addition to the $47.6 million that the latest Despicable Me movie grossed over Wednesday and Thursday.
The Despicable Me/Minions franchise has a history of opening over the Fourth of July weekend, which makes it hard to find a standard Friday-Sunday three-day weekend comparison. Ignoring these discrepancies, Despicable Me 4’s three-day weekend was pretty close to Despicable Me 3’s $72.4 million weekend and slightly behind Despicable Me 2’s $84.2 million.
The Minions standalone movies have trended higher, with Minions opening with $115.7 million and Minions: The Rise of Gru opening with $107 million two years ago.
Despicable Me 4 is now the ninth movie of 2024 to pass the $100 million mark domestically.
Weekend gross: $30M
Total domestic gross: $533.8M

Inside Out’s three-weekend run at No. 1 came to an end this weekend, but Pixar’s latest definitely made the most of its time on top. Through four weekends, the sequel sits at No. 2 for Pixar films, behind only Incredibles 2’s $608.6 million. Inside Out 2 is also No. 18 on the all-time domestic chart (less than a million bucks away from The Dark Knight’s $534,235,491) and No. 25 on the all-time worldwide chart.
