‘Caught Stealing’ strikes out against ‘Weapons’ and ‘Jaws’ anniversary release
The Labor Day weekend box office was a quiet one, but the Austin Butler/Darren Aronofsky adaptation failed to run up the score.

Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Aug. 29-31, 2025.
1. Weapons
Weekend gross: $10.2M
Total domestic gross: $132.4M
Last weekend: 2nd
Percent drop: 34
After dipping to No. 2 when challenged by the two-day release of Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters last weekend, Weapons was back into the top spot this weekend, holding off not only new releases like Caught Stealing and The Roses but also the re-release of Jaws.
Weapons has now easily cruised past the $200 million mark at the worldwide box office, thanks to the $100 million that it’s grossed outside of North America.

2. Jaws
Weekend gross: $8.1M
Total domestic gross: $280.4M
Last weekend: Re-release
Percent drop: NA
The film that arguably invented the summer blockbuster was back half a century later, closing out that very season for 2025 in the No. 2 spot this weekend. The 50th anniversary release of Jaws scored $8.1 million over 3,200 screens.
Blah blah blah inflation, but that $8.1 million from this weekend was actually more than Jaws ever logged over a single weekend during its original run.
