At long last, the McDonald’s Snack Wrap is back

Fans have spent almost a decade asking the fast-food giant to restore the beloved menu item to its menu.

At long last, the McDonald’s Snack Wrap is back

The year was 2016. Captain America and Iron Man were battling each other on the big screen. Hamilton mania was sweeping the nation. The kids on Stranger Things actually looked like kids. And McDonald’s phased out its beloved Snack Wrap.

Almost a decade later, the fast-food giant is righting that wrong.

The Snack Wrap made its triumphant returns to menus nationwide today, piggybacking on McDonald’s adding McCrispy Strips back in May.

I’m not sure if I ever had a Snack Wrap during the iconic menu item’s original reign. As I’ve mentioned in previous editions of Snackology covering McDonald’s items, my go-to items have long been the Filet-O-Fish and the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese. (I still maintain that the latter is the best burger available at McDonald’s.)

But with a bunch of fast-food chains getting into the chicken wrap mix — Popeye’s launched theirs last month and Taco Bell followed with the Crispy Chicken Taco — I wasn’t going to pass up the Snack Wrap. McDonald’s take on this form factor is probably the most well-known versus its competitors.

I’m going to need a minute to reflect on the reality that Captain America: Civil War and the first season of Stranger Things premiered almost a decade ago before we chat about the new Snack Wraps ...

My thoughts

One of the things I don’t often convey via Snackology is whether or not I’ve followed up with another run at an item I’ve covered for the newsletter. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve gotten several more of Wendy’s Pop-Tart Frostys, but I haven’t mentioned that I’ve had McDonald’s McCrispy Strips a few more times since my original coverage.

I recommended McCrispy Strips when they debuted in May, and I still stick by that review. They’re a great item to order if you’re going to be eating while you’re driving — they honestly don’t need a sauce — and my hope for the Snack Wrap is that McDonald’s built off that foundation.

Ranch

Both flavors of the Snack Wrap begin with the same base: “One of our new McCrispy Strips – a juicy chicken strip made with all white meat – topped with crisp shredded lettuce and shredded cheese, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla.” If you liked McCrispy Strips when they first hit McDonald’s menus, you should be on board already.

For the Ranch version of this item, McDonald’s adds “a satisfying burst of cool ranch goodness, with hints of garlic and onion.”

Of the two Snack Wraps, the Ranch one feels like the more tame option. I really enjoyed this one. Despite having it delivered, it arrived warm. The chicken had the right mix of crispiness and tenderness. There wasn’t too much shredded lettuce. (It’s super easy to go overboard on shredded lettuce, especially if you’re a restaurant trying to fill up a wrap or sandwich.)

My only complaint about the Ranch Snack Wrap — and this was an issue with Popeye’s Chicken Wraps too — is that the sauce wasn’t evenly distributed. I spent maybe three-quarters of my time eating this variety thinking that it was a good wrap but could’ve used more of that ranch punch.

Then I got to my final bites.

If I get another Ranch Snack Wrap in the future, I’m going to have to make sure I squish around the sauce before eating it.

Final verdict: BUY

Spicy

My expectation with the Spicy Snack Wrap was that its spiciness would be Buffalo-sauce based. That’s where the Spicy McCrispy sandwich gets its kick from. Or at least, that’s what I thought.

Researching the Spicy Snack Wrap blew open my worldview when it came to McDonald’s line of spicy chicken. I could swear that the Spicy McCrispy came with a Buffalo sauce, but then I noticed that the chain’s description of the sandwich mentioned “a Spicy Pepper Sauce topping.” And then there’s the description of the Spicy Snack Wrap: “Bold, zesty and unapologetically fiery – our Spicy Snack Wrap brings the heat with a habanero kick that fans know and love from the Spicy McCrispy sandwich.”

Despite falling into some kind of Mandela Effect when it came to whether or not McDonald’s was using Buffalo sauce on the Spicy McCrispy, I also enjoyed the Spicy Snack Wrap. As you can see by my photo, this one didn’t have the issue of the sauce all being stuck on one side. This one was thoroughly sauced.

Final verdict: BUY

Final thoughts

Fans of the Snack Wrap have long awaited this day. I’m not sure if there’s another fast-food item out there that people have been requesting, much less requesting for almost a decade. While I don’t have a Snack Wrap on hand from 2016 to compare 2025’s versions with, I’d say this was a successful return.

Now if only we could get McDonald’s to bring back those classic McDonaldland cookies that had a hint of lemon to them ...
