Not content with already being everywhere, the singer’s album release film took the No. 1 spot while The Rock’s ‘Smashing Machine’ bombed.

Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Oct. 3-5, 2025.

Production note

The Box Office Report will publish on Tuesday next week to reflect the long weekend.

1. Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl

Weekend gross: $33M
Total domestic gross: $33M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA

Taylor Swift was everywhere this weekend thanks to the release of her new album. Social media was inundated with people’s thoughts on The Life of a Showgirl. (Swift didn’t appear on SNL, but her Funfetti sourdough bread did become a reality.) Swifties stormed back into movies too to celebrate the new album with Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.

Despite it feeling like we’re all trapped in Swift’s snow globe of cultural influence, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl packed a much weaker punch than Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour did at the box office.

When The Eras Tour released in 2023, it scored a $93.2 million opening weekend across 3,855 theaters. The Official Release of a Showgirl still grossed a respectable $33 million across 3,702 theaters. Was Swift’s 2023 concert film just a bigger event?

Total domestic gross: $42.8M
Last weekend: 1st

One Battle After Another added $11.1 million to its domestic haul this weekend, pushing Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film passed There Will Be Blood ($40.2 million) to become the director’s highest grossing film.
