Reese’s finally put marshmallow back in a peanut butter cup (but is it enough?)
Fans had to wait 20 years for the return of Reese’s Marshmallow Peanut Butter Cups. The wait for PB&J Strawberry Peanut Butter Cups? Barely a year.

When I heard the news that Reese’s Marshmallow Peanut Butter Cups were on the way in early 2026, I was thrilled. How did it take Hershey this long to put marshmallow in the iconic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup?
Well, it turns out they’ve done it before. Way back in 2006 (I don’t think I even had a Blogger back then, much less Snackology up and running), the world was briefly gifted Reese’s With Marshmallow. I don’t remember trying this flavor twenty years ago, but I made sure to hunt it down in 2026.
Hershey isn’t just bringing back a marshmallow Reese’s Cup this spring. The company has paired the flavor with the return of Reese’s Strawberry PB&J Peanut Butter Cups. Fans of that flavor didn’t have to wait twenty years, though, with Strawberry PB&J Reese’s Cups making their debut last spring.
Between both these flavors, Reese’s has the elementary school lunch I usually got (a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with strawberry jam) and the elementary school lunch I never got (fluffernutter) covered.

Each 9.35 oz. bag of Reese’s Snack Size Cups were $5.99 on the Hershey website.

Going into this review, I was cautious. I really wanted to like the PB&J Reese’s Cups when they were released last year, but I was only ever able to find them in the Big Cup format. When it comes to stuffing a Reese’s Cup full of cookies or sprinkles or even potato chips, the Big Cup is the perfect delivery system.
But when you have that much peanut butter overpowering a thin layer of strawberry or grape jam, the Big Cup is all wrong for this format. The bags I ordered from Hershey’s website were “Snack Size” — which might be slightly smaller than the traditional size of a Reese’s Cup. Would this size Reese’s Cup be more balanced?

I started with the Reese’s Marshmallow Snack Size Peanut Butter Cups. Sure, they had once been available twenty years ago, but I had no memory of them from back then and was eager to bite into one.
I’m pleased to confirm that the layer of marshmallow in the marshmallow Reese’s Cup is actually marshmallow. Reese’s has teased us with the promise of marshmallow in recent years, releasing Reese’s Mallow-Top Marshmallow Creme Peanut Butter Cups. I was disappointed to learn that, in reality, that flavor was just “marshmallow flavored creme.”
But Reese’s Marshmallow Peanut Butter Cups are the real deal.
Unfortunately, despite the boast of “a layer of fluffy, marshmallow-flavored filling,” that layer of marshmallow is still way too thin. If Hershey could match the amount of marshmallow that the picture on the label promises, this would be a top-tier Reese’s Cup.

When the PB&J Reese’s Cups were released last year, I gave both the strawberry and grape flavors “points for attempting to mimic an actual flavor of jelly/jam with their filling.” I really liked them, but once again, the jam-to-peanut butter ratio in a Reese’s Big Cup was off.
Going with the Snack Size does fix that issue a bit, but we’re still not there. I don’t know why they don’t make both of these flavors as Reese’s Miniatures. Or maybe this is just the kind of problem that remains an issue no matter how much you shrink down the size of the Reese’s Cup.
At least the strawberry jam flavor remains bright, popping against the heaviness of the peanut butter the best that it can. Not sure why Hershey killed the grape flavor, but strawberry is definitely what I would’ve gone with too had I been tasked with picking just one flavor of jam for the PB&J Reese’s Cups.
