Take a tour through the ‘SNL’ Five-Timers Club
With Jack Black on the cusp of joining the prestigious group next weekend, it’s the perfect moment to rewatch past inductions.
This new take on snack mix is buttery and bold, offering a flavor profile that’s different from other brands.
Is there a snack food that’s easier to devour by the handful than the appropriately named snack mix? How can you say no to the lovely mix of cereal, pretzels, bread sticks, bagel chips and more?
I’ve eaten so many bags of Chex Mix over my years that I’ve lost count. While working at CVS during high school and college, an entire bag of Gardetto’s was often a meal. (God bless you, rye chips.) I even figured out how to make my own Chex Mix last Christmas. I thought it turned out pretty well, but now I have a giant thing of seasoning salt in our cupboard.
Dot’s introduced its own snack mix earlier this month, sending Dot’s Original Snack Mix out into the world. Their take on snack mix is made up of four elements: Dot’s Original Seasoned Mini Pretzels, Dot’s Original Seasoned Corn Cereal, Dot’s Bold Cheese Seasoned Pita Chips and savory garlic rye chips. The pretzels, corn cereal and rye chips are all tried and true snack mix elements, joined by the wild card addition of cheese-seasoned pita chips.
“Dot’s has never been about blending in,” Eric Bowers, vice president of Salty Marketing for The Hershey Company, said. (I want that job title.) “We believe snacks should feel crafted, surprising, and worth reaching for. Dot’s Original Snack Mix brings that same bold mindset to every handful: no filler, no letdowns, it’s a bold combination of snacks that create the ultimate Snack Mix.”
Well, I’m pretty sure I’m qualified to give my opinion on a new snack mix, so let’s give Dot’s Original Snack Mix a try ...

Dot’s boasts that its snack mix is “crafted with no filler and no weak links. Every piece is intentionally bold, delivering distinct flavor and crunch in every handful.” They’re not wrong.
This is a very bold snack mix.
If I were to compare Dot’s Original Snack Mix with, you know, that other major snack mix on the market, I’d say that Dot’s take on the snack lands much closer to Chex Mix Bold Garlic and Herb Snack Mix than the standard version of Chex Mix.
Dot’s drafted a pretty solid lineup of snacks to include in this mix. There’s a ton of crunch thanks to the mini pretzels, corn cereal and rye chips, and the cheese-seasoned pita chips add a nice savory vibe. The brand is apparently “known for boldly seasoned buttery-rich pretzels,” and that buttery-ness really comes through in Dot’s Original Snack Mix.
And honestly, one my favorite parts about Dot’s Original Snack Mix is that it comes in this generous 14 oz. bag.
