Celebrating a year in America, BUBS releases two new berry flavors

BUBS are one of the biggest stories in candy over the past year. When Snackology first covered the brand’s American debut last September, you couldn’t find a bag of the gummy candy in a traditional store. Since then, though, I’ve found BUBS everywhere. Targets. Gas stations. Even at the random candy store at one of the malls by us. (I wouldn’t recommend buying BUBS that way. It’s much more cost-efficient to buy an entire bag than to pay for them by the pound.)

“It’s been incredible to watch BUBS go from a viral sensation to a staple on the U.S. candy aisles,” Åsa Gisel, head of marketing at BUBS, said in the company’s release celebrating a year since that launch. “We’ve been so inspired by the love from our U.S. fans, and these new flavors, sizes and seasonal designs are our way of giving fans even more of what they love, with plenty more still to come.”

Oh, so you’re probably wondering about those new flavors. The brand’s lineup is expanding with BUBS Sour Forest Berries Ovals and BUBS Sweet Wild Berry Pomegranate Ovals.

BUBS Sour Forest Berries Ovals are exclusive to Five Below, selling at $3 for a 5.5 oz. bag. BUBS Sweet Wild Berry Pomegranate Ovals are exclusive to Target, selling at $3.19 for a 5.5 oz bag and $4.99 for an 8 oz. bag.

My thoughts

For the first year of BUBS’s official American release, the brand has offered four flavors: Sweet Banana Toffee Ovals, Sour Lemon Raspberry Skulls, Sour Strawberry Vanilla Diamonds and Sour Tutti Frutti Diamonds. Sweet Banana Toffee Ovals were my favorite of the bunch when I reviewed this batch last year, and whenever I’ve purchased a bag of BUBS since then, it’s always that flavor.

But now there are two new flavors ...

BUBS Sour Forest Berries Ovals

BUBS describes this flavor as a “summery combo of tangy blueberry and delicious raspberry.” While last year’s launch included Sour Strawberry Vanilla Diamonds, BUBS Sour Forest Berries Ovals puts a more tart spin on a sour, berry gummy.

Every time I’ve eaten a Sour Forest Berries Oval for this review, I catch myself thinking, Huh, this one isn’t all that sour. Then the sourness kicks in.
