‘KPop Demon Hunters’ gets golden opportunity with Criterion Collection

KPop Criterion hunters

If you’re not familiar with the Criterion Collection, the company produces the gold standard of physical media releases. In a world of streaming, Criterion has doubled down on high quality packaging while preserving the practice of including interviews and commentary that was once standard on home releases of movies.

The prestige that Criterion carries makes it super huge news that KPop Demon Hunters and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein will be joining the collection later this year.

Variety broke the news earlier this week, surprising those of us who aren’t used to Netflix movies getting physical media releases of any kind. (I’d love to add Rian Johnon’s Glass Onion to my collection.) And while some people haughtily made fun of the lofty Criterion Collection adding a movie like KPop Demon Hunters, this is a golden strategy to introduce a new generation of fans to physical media.
