Riding a wave of wildly enthusiastic reviews, One Battle After Another scored a $22.4 million opening weekend.
This was not only easily the biggest debut for Paul Thomas Anderson, but in this one weekend alone, One Battle After Another has already passed the entire domestic gross for every one of Anderson’s films except There Will Be Blood ($40.2 million), Boogie Nights ($26.4 million) and barely Magnolia ($22.5 million).
For Leonardo DiCaprio — a man with a few blockbusters on his resumé — One Battle After Another sits between The Wolf of Wall Street ($18.4 million) and Killers of the Flower Moon ($23.3 million) on his career list of North American opening weekends.

I gotta say that despite seeing a few Lego sets based on the movie when my daughter and I recently visited the Lego Store, Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie was not on my radar this weekend.
The Netflix series didn’t need my help, though, to jump into theaters with a respectable $13.7 million opening weekend.
