The candy corn-iest ranking of everyone’s favorite Halloween treat
Yes, Nerds makes its own candy corn ... but should you buy it over the classic Brach’s version?
The fourth film in the rebooted ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchise showed incredible consistency with its predecessors.
Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of May 10-12, 2024.
Weekend gross: $56.5M
Total domestic gross: $56.5M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA
The rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise is incredibly consistent when it comes to opening weekends. Rise of the Planet of the Apes? $54.8 million. War for the Planet of the Apes? $56.3 million. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes? $56.5 million.
Of the four films released since 2011, only Dawn of the Planet of the Apes broke the mold, opening with $72.6 million in 2014. (It also wildly outpaced its predecessor and successor at the worldwide box office, grossing $710.6 million versus Rise’s $471 million and War’s $490 million.)
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes proved that audiences are still interested in this franchise — something that Disney should be thrilled to know now that it controls the saga.
Quick side note: Despite being critically derided and a franchise dead end, Tim Burton and Mark Wahlberg’s attempt at rebooting Planet of the Apes in 2001 outperformed Rise, War and Kingdom when it comes to opening weekend ($68.5 million) but was passed on the worldwide level ($362.2 million) by Rise and War. We’ll see if Kingdom can join that club.
Weekend gross: $13.7M
Total domestic gross: $49.7M

The Fall Guy slipped to No. 2 in its second weekend in theaters. While fans of the film are still a bit bewildered that The Fall Guy didn’t open better last week, I guess it’s a positive thing that the film didn’t stumble out of the top five this weekend?
