Fueled by stellar reviews and word of mouth, Predator: Badlands blew away its competition this weekend. Director Dan Trachentenberg has put his mark on the Predator franchise, making the jump from the straight-to-streaming Prey in 2022 to landing the franchise’s first theatrical release since 2018’s The Predator.
Badlands’ $40 million opening weekend is actually the franchise’s second lowest debut, ahead of only Predator 2’s $28.3 million — but with the franchise successfully jumping back into theaters, $40 million feels like a big win.
Weekend gross: $7.1M
Total domestic gross: $38.6M

Despite Sunday estimates putting Regretting You at No. 1, it turned out director Josh Boone’s adaptation fell short of holding off Black Phone 2 for the top spot at the box office. Regretting You clearly beat Black Phone 2 this weekend, though, putting just under $2 million of distance between it and the sequel.
