It’s easy being green when you’re Retro Diet Coke Lime
The throwback version of the flavor adds some zest to the basic taste of Diet Coke.

Coca-Cola has been rolling out some of its classic flavors the past few months — no, this isn’t the same thing as Coca-Cola Classic — with a retro spin. After releasing Retro Diet Cherry Coke over the summer, fans of these throwback sodas are now seeing green thanks to Retro Diet Coke Lime.
“The flavor you’ve been waiting for is back,” Coke declares on its website. “Experience the crisp, refreshing taste of Diet Coke with a twist of zesty lime flavor in retro limited-edition packaging. It’s the same iconic diet soda you know and love, with a bold citrusy kick that hits just right. Some things are just too good to stay gone.”
Is Lime the flavor of Coke you’ve been waiting for? If I’m making a hierarchy of Coke flavors that I want on shelves, it would go Cherry (bonus points if Coke brings back the Cherry Coke branding from the 90s), Vanilla, Cherry Vanilla ... and then I guess Lime? (The Cream Soda flavor available in Coke Freestyle machines really needs to make its way into cans and bottles.)
It’s one thing to bring lime Skittles back, but was Lime Coke the flavor the world was craving?
A 12-pack of Retro Diet Coke Lime cost me $11.49 at Harris Teeter.
OK, so the highlight of Retro Diet Coke Lime is obviously the retro labeling. This look follows in the footsteps of what Coke rolled out with Retro Diet Cherry Coke over the summer, going with bold colors on a stark white background.
Diet Zero is not my zero-calorie cola of choice. Not if there’s a Coke Zero available. (You might say that I have a Coke Zero addiction.) I prefer how Coke Zero tastes more like a traditional Coca-Cola while Diet Coke has its own distinct flavor. That said, Retro Diet Coke Lime feels like a step away from Diet Coke?
That “twist of zesty lime flavor” really does elevate the basic-ness of a Diet Coke to something tastier.

Sure, you can get Diet Coke Lime in a Coke Freestyle machine at a Wendy’s or an AMC movie theater, but fans of this flavor will be excited to find it back in stores this fall. How about a Coke Zero version next?
