‘Final Destination’ franchise rises from the dead with ‘Bloodlines’
After a 14-year break, the series slayed its previous box office records.

Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of May 16-18, 2025.
1. Final Destination: Bloodlines
Weekend gross: $51M
Total domestic gross: $51M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA
Death might have it out for the poor characters in the Final Destination movies, but the franchise itself is more alive than ever. After a fourteen year hiatus, the series sprang back to life as Final Destination: Bloodlines debuted with a $51 million opening weekend.
How good is that number? Well, it easily blows away the franchise’s previous best opening weekend, The Final Destination’s $27.4 million haul in August 2009.
Even crazier is the fact that Bloodlines’ $51 million debut is bigger than the entire domestic grosses of Final Destination 2 ($46.9 million) and Final Destination 5 ($42.6 million) and is within a few million of passing Final Destination ($53.3 million) and Final Destination 3 ($54.1 million).
This isn’t even a “well, if you counted for inflation …” kind of deal. Final Destination: Bloodlines just had a weekend that was previously unheard of for the franchise.

2. Thunderbolts*
Weekend gross: $16.5M
Total domestic gross: $155.4M
Last weekend: 1st
Percent drop: 49
Man, I just don’t know what to think about MCU movies these days. Will Thunderbolts* hit $200 million? The film is slowly making up ground compared to where Captain America: Brave New World was through three weekends. Brave New World added $14.9 million at this point compared to the $16.5 million grossed by Thunderbolts* this weekend. But Thunderbolts* barely fended off Sinners.
