Hello! Welcome to **The** **Box Office Report** for the weekend of Aug. 28-30, 2026.

## 1\. Spider-Man: Brand New Day

*Weekend gross: *$22.2M**
*Total domestic gross: *$891.5M**
*Last weekend: *1st**
*Percent drop: *43**

That’s a fifth straight weekend at No. 1 for *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* as the film continues its historic run through the box office record books. The **Destin Daniel Cretton**\-directed superhero film is less than $10 million away from joining *Star Wars: The Force Awakens* as the only two movies to ever crack $900 million in North America.

*The Force Awakens* settled at $936.7 million after its 2015/2016 theatrical stay. Through its fifth weekend, though, the first film in the *Star Wars* sequel trilogy sat at $852.3 million. That gives *Brand New Day* a $39.2 million advantage over *The Force Awakens*.

Will the latest MCU film catch and pass *The Force Awakens*? And how much farther could *Brand New Day* go beyond that $936.7 million record? A $1 billion domestic performance seems out of the question at this point, but who saw this *Spider-Man* making this much money in the first place?

## 2\. Coyote vs. Acme

*Weekend gross: *$15.5M**
*Total domestic gross: *$15.5M**
*Last weekend: *New release**
*Percent drop: *NA**

We did it! Box office glory for *Coyote vs. Acme*!

OK, so maybe a $15.5 million opening weekend isn’t a box office number to go crazy over, but it’s $15.5 million more than *Coyote vs. Acme* would’ve debuted with [had **David Zaslav** and Warner Bros. Discovery gotten their way](https://www.theomnicosm.com/popculturology-newsletter-coyote-vs-acme/) and this wonderful film had been shelved forever in exchange for a tax write-off.

Among Looney Tunes films, *Coyote vs. Acme* easily outdid the $3.2 million opening weekend of *The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie* (also already matched that film’s entire $15.5 million worldwide haul), while trailing the debuts of *Space Jam* ($27.5 million) and *Space Jam: A New Legacy* ($31.1 million).

## 3\. The Odyssey

*Weekend gross: *$14.3M**
*Total domestic gross: *$563.8M**
*Last weekend: *3rd**
*Percent drop: *27**

Does *The Odyssey* have what it takes to hit the $600 million mark in North America? The **Christopher Nolan** film added $24.6 million since last weekend. *The Odyssey* continues to show remarkable weekend-to-weekend holds, falling only 27 percent between its sixth and seventh weekends.

## 4\. Insidious: Out of the Further

*Weekend gross: *$10.1M**
*Total domestic gross: *$43.6M**
*Last weekend: *2nd**
*Percent drop: *60**

After debuting at No. 2 last weekend, *Insidious: Out of the Further* suffered a 60 percent drop, falling to No. 4\. Drops like that are going to make it hard for the sixth *Insidious* film to catch up to the franchise’s loftier domestic totals led by *Insidious Chapter 2*’s $83.6 million and *Insidious: The Red Door*’s $81.2 million.

## 5\. The Dog Stars

*Weekend gross: *$8M**
*Total domestic gross: *$8M**
*Last weekend: *New release**
*Percent drop: *NA**

Woof. Going into the weekend, it looked like *The Dog Stars* would be jostling with *Coyote vs. Acme* for second place behind *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. Instead, the **Ridley Scott**\-directed adaptation came in at No. 5, failing to even break $10 million over its opening weekend.
