Welcome to **The** **Box Office Report** for the weekend of Sept. 4, 2026. ## 1\. Spider-Man: Brand New Day *Weekend gross: *$18M** *Total domestic gross: *$917.8M** *Last weekend: *1st** *Percent drop: *20** I’ve long thought that *Star Wars: The Force Awakens* had an unbreakable record on its hands when it came to the film’s $936.7 million domestic haul. The seventh *Star Wars* film had everything going for it. There had been a decade since *The Revenge of the Sith* had seemingly closed out the franchise. The original trilogy’s stars were back. And *The Force Awakens* opened in the perfect December window to capitalize on the most lucrative combo of holidays and school vacations. *Avengers: Endgame* couldn’t break its record. The *Avatar* sequels couldn’t break its record. Then *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* came out of nowhere this summer and has already joined *The Force Awakens* this weekend as the only two members of the $900 million club. The question at this point isn’t whether *Brand New Day* will pass *The Force Awakens* for the top spot on the all-time box office chart. It’s how high the latest Spider-Man film can go. Coyote vs. Acme *Weekend gross: *$11.3M** *Total domestic gross: *$33.8M** *Last weekend: *2nd** *Percent drop: *29** I was worried that after its triumphant No. 2 debut last weekend, *Coyote vs. Acme* would immediately drop out of the top five this weekend. The hybrid live-action/animation film held strong with a 29 percent drop from last weekend, adding another $11.3 million to its domestic haul. ## 4\. By Any Means *Weekend gross: *$7.4M** *Total domestic gross: *$7.4M** *Last weekend: *New release** *Percent drop: *NA** **Mark Wahlberg** playing a mob enforcer who the FBI must turn to in order to take advantage of his special set of skills is such a funny setup. We need to get **Yahya Abdul-Mateen II** into more movies ... movies that don’t rely on Wahlberg. ## 5\. Insidious: Out of the Further *Weekend gross: *$6.5M** *Total domestic gross: *$54.1M** *Last weekend: *4th** *Percent drop: *36** *Insidious: Out of the Further* moved past two other installments of the *Insidious* franchise this weekend, passing the original *Insidious* ($54 million) and *Insidious Chapter 3* ($52.2 million). ## Beyond the Top Five - ***Onslaught*:** After *Godzilla vs. Kong* ($32.2 million) and *Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire* ($80 million) opened increasingly large first weekends, director **Adam Wingard**’s latest film failed to break into the top five. *Onslaught* came in at No. 13 with $1.9 million.
