Welcome to **The** **Box Office Report** for the weekend of Sept. 18-20, 2026. ## 1\. Resident Evil *Weekend gross: *$60M** *Total domestic gross: *$60M** *Last weekend: *New release** *Percent drop: *NA** The newest *Resident Evil* movie had a historic opening weekend for the franchise. Not only is its $60 million debut easily the biggest for a *Resident Evil* movie — *Resident Evil: Afterlife*’s $26.7 million was the previous high mark — but the reboot made more in North America this weekend than any previous *Resident Evil* movie did over its entire domestic run. By the time we get actual weekend numbers on Monday, there’s a solid chance *Weapons* director **Zach Cregger**’s entry into the series will have actually topped Afterlife’s $60.1 million haul. What a huge bounce-back for the *Resident Evil* franchise. The original run of movies began with 2002’s *Resident Evil*, with **Milla Jovovich** leading five sequels after that, culminating in 2016’s *Resident Evil: The Final Chapter*. The 2021 reboot attempt immediately stalled out as *Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City* opened with just $5.3 million. Practical Magic 2 *Weekend gross: *$12.2M** *Total domestic gross: *$50M** *Last weekend: *1st** *Percent drop: *59** A 59 percent drop between its opening weekend and this weekend isn’t great for *Practical Magic 2*, but the legacy sequel’s current $50 million domestic haul has already topped its predecessor’s $46.9 million North America total. Spider-Man: Brand New Day *Weekend gross: *$6.5M** *Total domestic gross: *$944.5M** *Last weekend: *2nd** *Percent drop: *23** It’s weird seeing *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* in third place, but time comes for all theatrical releases. With a $944.5 million haul, the latest Spider-Man film has passed *Star Wars: The Force Awakens* ($936.7 million) for the No. 1 spot on the all-time domestic chart. *Brand New Day* also sits at No. 3 on the all-time worldwide chart, with its $2.456 billion total currently settling between *Avatar: The Way of Water*’s $2.334 billion and *Avengers: Endgame*’s $2.799 billion. ## 4\. The Odyssey *Weekend gross: *$4.9M** *Total domestic gross: *$609.8M** *Last weekend: *3rd** *Percent drop: *35** Based on their previous trajectories, I thought we’d see *The Odyssey* skip past *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* this weekend, but thanks to the latter’s spectacular 23 percent weekend-to-weekend hold, the **Christopher Nolan** film shifted down to the No. 4 slot. ## 5\. Coyote vs. Acme *Weekend gross: *$4.5M** *Total domestic gross: *$54.8M** *Last weekend: *5th** *Percent drop: *30** *Coyote vs. Acme*, still in the top five!
