Hello! Welcome to **The** **Box Office Report** for the weekend of July 24-26, 2026\.

## 1\. The Odyssey

*Weekend gross: *$87M**
*Total domestic gross: *$286.4M**
*Last weekend: *1st**
*Percent drop: *30**

The legend of **Christopher Nolan**’s adaptation of *The Odyssey* will be told for generations. (Or, at least until *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* comes out next weekend.) The film continues to defy all expectations for an R-rated, non-franchise film.

Thanks to a ridiculous 30 percent weekend-to-weekend drop, *The Odyssey* grossed an estimated $87 million this weekend. That’s the biggest second weekend for any Nolan film, easily surpassing *The Dark Knight*’s $75.2 million second frame.

Through just two weekends, *The Odyssey*’s domestic gross is already higher than *Dunkirk* ($190.1 million), *Interstellar* ($204.5 million) and *Batman Begins* ($205.3 million). *Inception* ($293.7 million) is all that stands between *The Odyssey* and the $300 million mark on Nolan’s domestic rankings.

The only problem facing *The Odyssey* seems to be the shaky state of our nation’s IMAX technology. The 70mm IMAX projector at the King of Prussia Regal [went down at the end of last week](https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/odyssey-imax-kop-prussia-70mm-down-refund-reschedule/?ref=theomnicosm.com), ruining the movie-going plans for people who had bought a ticket at one of just 25 theaters in the country with a 70mm IMAX projector. Not great for a technology that’s already [scrounging together old parts](https://variety.com/2026/film/news/why-no-more-imax-70mm-screens-the-odyssey-christopher-nolan-1236813019/?ref=theomnicosm.com) and that engineers don’t even have the original plans for anymore.

If you have a chance or are still plotting how you’re going to see *The Odyssey*, it’s absolutely worth catching it on the most massive IMAX screen you can find. I saw it at 9 p.m. last night on the six-story high Airbus IMAX in Chantilly, Va., and I’m so happy I went with that instead of the fake IMAX screen at my normal AMC.

## 2\. Live-action Moana remake

*Weekend gross: *$10.5M**
*Total domestic gross: *$102.5M**
*Last weekend: *2nd**
*Percent drop: *41**

After [its historically dismal opening weekend](https://www.theomnicosm.com/popculturology-box-office-report-moana/), the live-action *Moana* remake has managed to hobble its way past the $100 million mark, holding onto second place in back-to-back weekends.

The remake is still falling at a faster pace than *Toy Story 5*, which when the final numbers come in on Monday, could actually wind up ahead of **Dwayne Johnson**’s *Moana* redo. Less than a million dollars separates the estimates for the films that finished between No. 2 and No. 5 this weekend.

## 3\. Toy Story 5

*Weekend gross: *$10M**
*Total domestic gross: *$448.6M**
*Last weekend: *3rd**
*Percent drop: *27**

After six weekends, it’s clear that *Toy Story 5* is the preferred animated/family movie of the summer. It’s never fallen below No. 3, and only dropped 27 percent between its fifth and sixth weekends. *Toy Story 5* has already seen *Minions & Monsters* fall below it, and it’s likely that the live-action *Moana* remake will do the same.

*Toy Story 5* also moved up to No. 4 on Pixar’s all-time domestic chart, passing *Toy Story 4*’s $434 million.

## 4\. Hadestown: The Musical

*Weekend gross: *$9.7M**
*Total domestic gross: *$9.7M**
*Last weekend: *New release**
*Percent drop: *NA**

*The Odyssey* isn’t the only movie based on a Greek myth making box office waves this weekend. *Hadestown: The Musical* came in at No. 4, with the film version of the musical getting in the mix with the live-action *Moana* remake, *Toy Story 5* and *Minions & Monsters*.

## 5\. Minions & Monsters

*Weekend gross: *$9.6M**
*Total domestic gross: *$155.4M**
*Last weekend: *4th**
*Percent drop: *29**

With four weekends in the books, it looks like *Minions & Monsters* might be the first film in the *Despicable Me*/*Minions* franchise to not crack $200 million in North America. This is an even bigger deal when you realize that only two of these movies — the original *Despicable Me* at $252.8 million and *Despicable Me 3* at $264.6 million — didn’t hit $300 million.

*Box office numbers via The Numbers and Box Office Mojo based on Sunday estimates.*
