Hello! Welcome to **The** **Box Office Report** for the weekend of July 3-5, 2026.

## 1\. Minions & Monsters

*Weekend gross: *$36.4M**
*Total domestic gross: *$61.4M**
*Last weekend: *New release**
*Percent drop: *NA**

After ignoring the *Despicable Me*/*Minions* franchise for fifteen years, I finally saw one of the films in theaters this weekend. It turns out a ton of the rest of you went in the opposite direction, with *Minions & Monsters* opening with the lowest domestic debut in franchise history.

With several of the *Despicable Me*/*Minions* movies opening over a July 4 weekend, it gets a bit tricky to exactly compare their first frames, but anyway you slice it, *Minions & Monsters* was a huge drop-off for the franchise.

*Despicable Me 4* also had a five-day July 4 weekend, grossing $122.6 million over that period with $75 million of that total coming over the traditional three-day weekend. *Minions & Monsters* could only muster up $61.4 million over its entire five-day debut window.

## 2\. Toy Story 5

*Weekend gross: *$31M**
*Total domestic gross: *$366.3M**
*Last weekend: *1st**
*Percent drop: *56**

*Toy Story 5* was roughly six million dollars away from holding onto the No. 1 spot over its third weekend in theaters. The Pixar film added another $31 million to its domestic total over the three-day weekend, moving past *Inside Out* ($356.4 million) to secure the No. 6 spot on Pixar’s all-time domestic rankings.

The fifth *Toy Story* movie now sets its sights on becoming the sixth Pixar film to cross the $400 million mark.

## 3\. Young Washington

*Weekend gross: *$20.8M**
*Total domestic gross: *$20.8M**
*Last weekend: *New release**
*Percent drop: *NA**

I can’t remember if it was before *Disclosure Day* or before *Supergirl*, but when the trailer for *Young Washington* played and the moment the title card revealed who the film was about, people in the theater laughed.

I guess *Young Washington* is now laughing at the doubters, with the Angel Studios biopic grossing $20.8 million over, appropriately, the July 4 weekend. Did this movie stick to [the fact that Washington would save children, but not the British children](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbRom1Rz8OA&ref=theomnicosm.com)?

## 4\. Supergirl

*Weekend gross: *$9.6M**
*Total domestic gross: *$58.5M**
*Last weekend: *2nd**
*Percent drop: *74**

Superhero movies suffering huge weekend-to-weekend drops has become pretty common in the post-*Avengers: Endgame* period. It used to be jarring to see a drop in the high-60s or the 70s, but *Supergirl* falling 74 percent since its opening weekend feels normal for the genre.

Of course, if you’re going to drop 74 percent, you’d prefer it comes after a massive opening weekend and you’ve already banked a bunch of box office bucks. Falling 74 percent after [a disappointing $37.1 million debut](https://www.theomnicosm.com/popculturology-newsletter-supergirl-wrong/) is, well, even more disappointing for *Supergirl*.

## 5\. Disclosure Day

*Weekend gross: *$6M**
*Total domestic gross: *$105.3M**
*Last weekend: *5th**
*Percent drop: *27**

*Disclosure Day*, on the other hand, saw its strongest weekend-to-weekend performance. The **Steven Spielberg** film previously dropped 60 percent between its first and second weekends and 53 percent going into last weekend. Did [a bunch of boomers decide to see *Disclosure Day*](https://www.vulture.com/article/disclosure-days-box-office-reveals-a-new-generation-gap.html?ref=theomnicosm.com) on their vacation days?

## Beyond the Top Five

- ***Obsession*:** It took eight weekends for *Obsession* to fall out of the top five. **Curry Barker**’s runaway hit grossed $5.3 million this weekend, finishing less than a million dollars behind *Disclosure Day*. The horror film now sits at $245.3 million in North America.
