The Devil Wears Prada 2 *Weekend gross: *$43M** *Total domestic gross: *$144.8M** *Last weekend: *1st** *Percent drop: *44** A lot of predictions had *Mortal Kombat II* possibly taking the No. 1 spot this weekend, but *The Devil Wears Prada 2* held on. The sequel’s $43 million second weekend was enough to hold on to the top spot at the box office. *The Devil Wears Prada 2* has outgrossed its predecessor’s entire gross, both domestically and worldwide. Mortal Kombat II *Weekend gross: *$40M** *Total domestic gross: *$40M** *Last weekend: *New release** *Percent drop: *NA** Wow, it turns out that people really wanted to see *Mortal Kombat II*. This movie wasn’t really on my radar, besides occasionally seeing **Karl Urban** in a still from the film on social media. It scored a respectable $40 million opening weekend, coming in right between *The Devil Wears Prada 2*’s second weekend and *Michael*’s third weekend. The sequel’s debut also drastically improved on 2021’s *Mortal Kombat*’s opening weekend of $23.3 million. *Mortal Kombat II*’s opening weekend has already almost eclipsed its predecessor’s entire $42.3 million domestic haul. Michael *Weekend gross: *$36.5M** *Total domestic gross: *$240.5M** *Last weekend: *2nd** *Percent drop: *33** *Michael* continues to outperform expectations, putting up back-to-back 44 percent and 33 percent weekend-to-weekend drops. With those dips building off a $97.2 million opening weekend, the **Michael Jackson** biopic is already at $240.5 million in North America. ## 4\. The Sheep Detectives *Weekend gross: *$15.9M** *Total domestic gross: *$15.9M** *Last weekend: *New release** *Percent drop: *NA** I don’t know what’s funnier. That *The Sheep Detectives* — a movie featuring talking sheep that have to solve the murder of their shepherd played by **Hugh Jackman** — exists. Or that it made $15.9 million this weekend. Other times you’re a **Billie Eilish** concert movie and you make $7.5 million your opening weekend. ## Beyond the Top Five - ***The Super Mario Galaxy Movie* and *Project Hail Mary*:** Both films fell out of the top five this weekend, but my prediction that *Project Hail Mary* will eventually tick back above *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie* continues to look smart.
